Finally presented that long-overdue exam!

What‽

Yes, I have not used this kind of outfit for over 20 years. And I hope it will be 20 more years before I do it again. But today, I was seen like this in public. Why?

Well, I won't explain the whole background yet again — I did it a bit over a month ago in this same space. Much much in short, I never attended university, so –after many years of working without any formal validation for my knowledge– I followed the CENEVAL Acuerdo 286 procedure to get a "Software Engineering" title and the corresponding cédula profesional.

Today I did the last portion of this procedure: Presenting an oral exam, defending the work I developed. Not precisely a thesis, but you can see it as an equivalent.

One of the requisites was to go on formal attire — Of course, I have some beautiful shirts I am very fond of, but I didn't want to risk it to such a detail, so I asked my friend and almost-neighbour Miguel Barajas to lend me the needed bits of clothing, and presented the exam.

Was it easy? No, not by a long shot. Did I pass? Yes!

Now, back to work!

¡Felicidades Ingeniero!

Saludos

Congratulations

I follow your postings via Debian Planet and enjoy them quite a lot. I wanted to congratulate you on your new title. I work in academia--where titles and whatnot are taken far too seriously. But it's always nice to be recognized for your accomplishments. So ... cheers!

gwolf's picture

...Also in academia

Well, I have worked for over ten years in Mexico's most important univeristy (UNAM). I am at a technical-academical level, but yes, I want to get the opportunity to teach, and to enter posgraduate studies.

Mithat's picture

Go fot it!

I've read your post about your interesting relationship with academia. :-)

If you are interested in teaching, please do anything and everything possible to make it happen. I do what I do because I love to teach, and I think we need a lot more of this. Many of my colleagues in teaching positions in the USA, UK, and Turkey find teaching a distraction from the "real job" of getting published and moving up. If the same is true in Mexico, please don't get discouraged!

Congratulations!

Yes, I know I already had write this on SMS! :D
