3D modelling on old home equipment
…Or something like that ;-) For those who don’t understand the silly joke – Blender is a production-quality free 3D rendering/animation engine, which you can download for basiclally any operating system you can think of. Thanks to <a href=”http://www.g-blender.org/” title=”G-Blender: La comunidad de Blender 3D en español</a>Claudia and Octavio, from the G-Blender Spanish-speaking community</a>, for the nice sticker :-}

This side up — Finally
Can I count myself in a majority of people that feel that, while the USB standard is a great advance regarding the way we used to connect our stuff to the computer some years ago (when we used a different cable for every friggin’ device we had, and we had to care about having only one parallel and two seral ports in regular configurations, and don’t even get me started on port settings — speed, parity, etc.), every time we hold a USB cable in our hand we feel one of the designer teams decided to play a prank on...

Biking without a set destination: Basílica de Guadalupe
Sunday. A good day to take some time to myself, and get some much needed excercise. And the pseudo-meditation that comes with it: That’s one of the factors I love the most about cycling. It’s possibly my favorite way of just idling, of allowing for the time to pass without me noticing, just watching the movie of life, watching the world go around me with very little effort. I just love cycling. I have posted here several mentions of the Ciclotón: Every month, the last Sunday, our city government closes a ~32Km circuit to make it for cycling (and skating,...

We repair god-babies
AGH! My eyes! My eyes! I don’t know where to start. Lets see: The sign should read something like Repair of God-babies and religious images. So, if your God-baby or other religious image is not miraculous enough, you can take it to them for repair?Verrrry professional sign writing «imajenes» where it should be «imágenes». Ok, minor point, but still very prominent.What an "excessive" abuse of "double" "quotes"! — «Repair of God-"babies" and "religious" "images"». So, if I have a semi-adult version of God, does it still count as a "baby"? Or if I have a movie of Elvis, is it...

This is a public garden (with a public fence around it)
This is a public garden. Please help us take care of it. I very gladly would, if you were so kind to let me in it, as the fence is blocking the entrance. (Outside a church, over Calzada de los Misterios; Gustavo A. Madero, Northern Mexico City.)

Redaction fail
“Por disposición legal, se prohibe fumar en este establecimiento; ante su inobservancia serán aplicables, por la autoridad correspondiente, multas de diez a treinta días de salario mínimo vigente; en caso de existir reincidencia, arresto por 36 horas” Wow. I can think of many clearer and less ambiguous ways to state precisely the same thing.

Cycling by the iconic Tlatelolco buildings
Even with their concrete exo-skeletons (a legacy from the damage they sustained in the 1985 earthquake)… The Tlatelolco buildings still have something interesting to them. Besides, I had a very nice time cycling around there.

Cycling by Reforma Norte: José de San Martín
Passing the San Martín statue, on Paseo de la Reforma. As I was taught in Argentina, all of the San Martín statues are riding a horse and facing the Andes, as he went with his army by horse to this massive mountains to conquer (hmm… it’s nicer if we just say “liberate”) today’s Chile and Perú. And yes, our San Martín is facing the Andes: Facing South.

Cycling all the way to Basílica de Guadalupe
Went out for a nice, quick ride on a sunny Sunday morning. Twenty-something kilometers later, and after meeting the open “Paseos dominicales” route along Reforma –starting at the Ángel roundabout and going along Reforma Norte– I tagged along to see how far did it go. And, nice, we reached Basílica de Guadalupe! Nice surprise ;-)
