“Por disposición legal, se prohibe fumar en este establecimiento; ante su inobservancia serán aplicables, por la autoridad correspondiente, multas de diez a treinta días de salario mínimo vigente; en caso de existir reincidencia, arresto por 36 horas” Wow. I can think of many clearer and less ambiguous ways to state precisely the same thing.

Macro-alebrijes in Reforma (2010-10-24)

Cycling by the iconic Tlatelolco buildings
Even with their concrete exo-skeletons (a legacy from the damage they sustained in the 1985 earthquake)… The Tlatelolco buildings still have something interesting to them. Besides, I had a very nice time cycling around there.

Cycling by Reforma Norte: José de San Martín
Passing the San Martín statue, on Paseo de la Reforma. As I was taught in Argentina, all of the San Martín statues are riding a horse and facing the Andes, as he went with his army by horse to this massive mountains to conquer (hmm… it’s nicer if we just say “liberate”) today’s Chile and Perú. And yes, our San Martín is facing the Andes: Facing South.

Cycling all the way to Basílica de Guadalupe
Went out for a nice, quick ride on a sunny Sunday morning. Twenty-something kilometers later, and after meeting the open “Paseos dominicales” route along Reforma –starting at the Ángel roundabout and going along Reforma Norte– I tagged along to see how far did it go. And, nice, we reached Basílica de Guadalupe! Nice surprise ;-)

Alebrijes 2010
Every year, towards the end of October, Museo de Artes Populares organizes the “night of the alebrijes” - I was not there during the presentation night, but cycled Reforma the day after (or two? or soon after?). This is what I saw - Part of it, as it was a huge exposition! Excuse the blurryness - my camera lens was a bit smudgy :-P

Entrevista en Canal 22: El movimiento del Software Libre
In February 2010, I was interviewed –along with other colleagues– for Canal 22’s thematic Tuesdays. Here are both the edited program that was aired on March 2, 2010 and the full interview (on the same file as the full interview they held with Fernando Romo). Full interview downloaded from Canal 22’s space in Youtube Attachments Full interview - .flv (Flash) video (161361 KB) Program as aired in March 2 2010 - .ogg video (167020 KB)

The worst part about the Suburban Train in Mexico City? Its entrance
No bikes? Bad! Narrow passage (~2m) for a potentially massive transport system? Bad! You have to go up ~15m of stairs to enter the station? Bad! Besides that, once you are inside the system, the service looks very nice. Of course, bad thing the coverage is so limited… Hopefully it will change.

Ruby dissonance with Debian, again
Lucas has written two long, insightful posts on the frustration about the social aspects of integrating Ruby stuff Debian – The first one, on September 12 and the second one, on September 29. I cannot really blame (thoroughly) the Ruby guys for their position. After all, they have a vibrant community, and they are advancing great pieces of work. And they know who that code is meant for — Fellow programmers. And yes, although it is a pain to follow their API changes (and several of the Gems I regularly use do often get refactorings and functionality enhancements which break...
